After hitting our top numbers of over 100,000 readers on our site, the opportunities for us continue to grow. In addition to attracting the interest of new advertisers (we’ll be posting new links in the next few days, removing the old), we also have the opportunity to share our story on related websites.
A few weeks ago, I suggested a book I’d read, Grain Brain, by Dr. David Perlmutter, a renowned neurologist, backed by years of diligent scientific research that further exemplified the reasons why I’ve gone to the extremes of my restrictive diet for the past 2 1/2 years. This diet ultimately changed my health to such an extent, that finally I could be mobile, able to travel the world.
After reading Dr. Perlmutter’s book, I contacted him and his media department who enthusiastically asked me to share my story of renewed health with his readers.
Please click here for our now published story, part of which is listed below.
Recently, Dr. Perlmutter appeared on the Dr. Oz TV show. Click here and scroll down the page for the informative and surprising video about brain health.
Congratulations on your being published on Dr Perlmutter's website and for having over 100,000 readers. That is a big WOW. I know that shows you how interesting and fun your blogs and pictures are.
It sounds like you are not really retired after all.
Your blog today was so incredible and your story, even though I have heard it before, brought tears to my eyes. I would never have believed that a change in ones diet could bring such life changing results. It is hard to imagine how a diet change could affect your spinal degeneration. I wonder if it would help with arthritis?
I am dealing with IBS and you said Tom's IBS was cured with this diet. It would be worth the effort for those results. But getting started seems so overwhelming, especially when I am the one preparing meals for my husband and daughter also. Will they be willing to eat a sandwich made without bread and on a lettuce leaf!
I am looking forward to your post tomorrow with the health related questions and answers.
You are an inspiration for never giving up!
Pat and Dan
Hi, Pat and Dan! So nice to see you here again and hope your vacations are wonderful!
Thanks for your congrats. It's funny what you say about us not being retired. Having been a business owner most of my working life, it is hard to break free entirely. However, if this is a "job" it's one we love enough so that it doesn't feel like work.
Please consider purchasing Dr. Perlmutter's book and reading every word. It will answer all of your questions as to why the biochemistry of the brain and inflammation effects every aspect of our health.
Tom's IBS was cured. We had no idea this when he decided to eat the same diet as I am on to lose weight. Not only did he lose 40 pounds but a 5 year agonizing period of severe IBS was gone. Now,, he "cheats" from time to time (never "at home," only when dining out) he has healed his gut and no longer has symptoms. His acid reflux is also gone, totally gone! He was able to quit taking 7 prescription pills a day after 2 months on the diet.
As for your husband and daughter, should they not want to take the leap, you can make the meat, salad and veggies for all of you and add whatever high carb sides they want: potatoes, rice, beans, bread. For you, not even a taste.
Dr. P explains in the book how sugar and carbs goes to the addictive center of our brains, making us crave more comparable to drug addiction, raising blood sugar, increasing our fat storage and full body inflammation. He explains it better in the book. Its an easy read.
Should you decide to do it, after reading this book or others (I can give you a list if you'll email me), I am happy to be your daily cheering section with tips, recipes and support.
Actually, it is very easy and you can eat FAT! I have cheese, nuts (no peanuts since they're a legume), avocados, bacon, eggs, steaks, the best coleslaw in and tons of non-starchy vegetables, all the food I could possibly want to eat, enjoying every morsel. In about a month when you start seeing results, all the cravings go away.
That's my 2 cents worth.
Thanks again for writing. Have a fabulous next vacation.
Warmest regards,
Jess & Tom
